Our example below is the head light surround on a 1966 Ford Galaxie, which is typical of this era vehicle. As you can see in the first photo the old fixing screws do not look so good.

The best way to find out what you have is to pull them out and match them up. Most cars will be 8G [4.2mm diameter] however if the fixings are worn or stretched then you most likely need to oversize and select a 10G [4.8mm diameter] which is the next size up and should not look out of place. KustomBitz stocks from ¾ inch to 1 & ½ inch in length in polished stainless. Longer lengths are not available in stainless.

Below is the finished job, hard to see now aren’t they. Well that’s the idea, it is this attention to detail that makes the average punter go wow ………… when they look at your car.

Same goes for the windscreen and interior window surrounds like on pre-48 Ford, Chev, Dodge, Chrysler, Packard, Oakland cars and classic yank tanks and muscle cars of the 60’s the best way to find out what you have is to pull them out and match them up. Again most will be 8G, then all you need to measure is the lengths you need.
