Quarter panel repairs done on this 1967 Toyota Crown ute showcase my body metal working skills. The bottom 400mm and up and over the wheel well have been replaced on both sides of the car in these pics. There was rust .... alot of rust. No patch panels are available for this model and no new old stock quarters could be found at the time, so I had to make everything I needed.
The rear wheel well ridges are shaped using a hammer and dolly, fading the edge out into the lower sections. It wasn't just any dolly though, I made the dolly myself to suit how I wanted the hammer and dolly technique to behave as I formed the ridge so it looked factory stock.
This right hand side had the worst upper section above the prominant swage crease line. I was dubious at best as to if I could get it into a reasonable shape let alone how well it turned out here. The way these qtr panels are fitted is quite intricate and not so easy to remove the whole qtr without creating another 100 hours worth of work, so I decided to put in 8 hours to repair the top section and, if that came out ok then the qtr panel could stay on. Then the bottom section below the swage line could be done on the car.

This RH side qtr had a massive stove in behind the front door leading into the front edge of the wheel well, and a very dodgey repair, it all had to be cut out. It was quite challengine to weld the new sections I made into that area becasue just below that swage line, where I had to weld it, was quite damaged and stretched in ways that were hard to read. So it kept moving as I welded it and I had to keep chasing it back into shape. It required I make a special "C" shaped body hammer to tap up some areas that were difficult to get in to.
The reason for telling you this is to demonstrate that no matter how hard the job may be, I will find away to get it done. To anyone else this car was a basket case when it came in. I have restored several basket case cars over the years that anyone else would have just cut it up. However you need to be well funded, becasue a project like this takes 100s and 100s of hours.
